Lily left a red journal at The Strand Bookstore with a list of challenges for the right boy to come along. The right boy was Dash. He accepted Lily's challenge and they established a relationship based on the writings and tasks they assigned each other, each wanting to meet and then again liking the anonymity the notebook offers them.
This book was cute and I liked the premise but a few things bothered me. It is centered around Christmas and both the protagonists parents have left them alone. Granted, Dash lied and told his mom he was going to his dad's and vise versa but I still found it problematic that the parents didn't check with each other. Lily's parents went on a trip for their 25th anniversary and then their Grandpa also went to Florida to be with his girlfriend so Lily was left with her brother and his boyfriend for company during Christmas. I thought it portrayed the parents as selfish and not really thinking of their kids. I didn't think that was a practical story line and I felt like the entire story could have taken place with adults present. However, even with my problems with the story line, it was still a cute story. I liked the idea of each author writing one character. The writing styles were not so different that it was distracting. Overall it was a cute book for the holidays.
