MRRL To Begin to Reopen Buildings

Missouri River Regional Library will begin the process of reopening physical locations over the next 3 weeks. The Library staff and board will continue to monitor the situation and adjust dates as needed moving forward. As of May 13, 2020, the reopening plan is as follows:

  • Both library buildings will be open to the public beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Services will be limited. Patrons are encouraged to continue social distancing and not come into the library if they are unwell.
  • Based on the recommendation of the Cole County Health Department, we have been advised to not allow patrons to remain in the library building for extended periods of time. Chairs, tables, and children’s games have been removed.
  • The Teen Zone and Twain Room (Quiet Reading Room) remain closed until further notice.
  • Meeting rooms will continue to be closed, and no in-person library programming is scheduled at this time. Virtual programming will continue through the end of June. Programming options can be found on our calendar at www.mrrl.org or on our Facebook page.
  • The public computer center will be open with reduced time limits. Computers have been removed to ensure social distancing between patrons.
  • Due dates on all materials checked out prior to March 18, 2020 have been extended to June 1, 2020. All drop boxes are open, and locations can be found at www.mrrl.org/hours-locations
  • Curbside pickup will continue at both locations in Jefferson City and Linn. The curbside process is:
    • Patrons will be able to put items on hold at www.mrrl.org or call each location. We will notify you when your items are ready for pickup. When patrons arrive at the library location in the marked parking spot, call (573) 634-2464 in Jefferson City or 573-897-2951 in Linn,  and a member of the staff will check out the items and bring them to the patron’s vehicle. Please have your library card ready when you call, and do not utilize this service if you are unwell.
    • If returning items while picking up curbside, please utilize the drop boxes.
    • Book Boxes will also be available again. Applications are available at https://www.mrrl.org/mrrl-book-box. If a patron has already filled out a Book Box application, they do not need to fill out another one. Each Book Box participant will be emailed in the coming weeks to set up a new pick up.

Please note that the Library is unable to comprehensively sanitize every single item that is checked out from its branches (books, movies, etc.), and as such, customers are advised to wash their hands after handling materials and avoid touching their faces. That said, the World Health Organization has reported that there is conflicting evidence of how long the virus may persist on surfaces, especially under varying conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.). The library will be quarantining returned items for 72 hours before checking in and reshelving. There will be a delay on your account with the check-in, but no fines or fees will be assessed on your account for the days that they are quarantined.
