Notary

The Library offers free notary services to the community.

We do not require a library card or ask that you prove residency in Cole or Osage Counties. There are staff at both branches who have been notarized and can assist you on most weekdays, including Tuesday evenings at the main library. We do ask that you call ahead to check on their availability to avoid any inconvenience.

Important Reminders:

  • Do not sign documents to be notarized ahead of time. They must be signed in front of the notary.
  • Please bring a current, valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a state-issued driver’s license/nondriver’s license, passport or military ID.
  • Proof of ID must be the original, physical document. Photographs or copies of any sort cannot be accepted by the notary.
  • Having a document notarized does not verify that the information in the document is true or legal. It only verifies that the notary has witnessed the signature of the person signing and has verified their identification.
  • Notaries cannot prepare or complete documents for you, nor can they give legal advice on the matter.
  • Bring all pages of the document that needs to be notarized. If you need to print out your documents, please complete this task prior to meeting with your notary. You may print documents at the library.
  • Fill in all the areas on the document that require your information, leaving no blank spaces EXCEPT for the section that requires signatures, notary seal and date.
  • Documents to be notarized must be in English. The library will not notarize a document in another language. Library notaries are not permitted to make use of a translator to communicate with a customer.
  • The library does not provide a witness for your notarized item. If your notarized item requires a witness, they will need to come with you to the appointment. Missouri statutes require witnesses to be known by the notary seeker.
