Program Description

Description

Sixty percent of Missouri firearm deaths are suicides. And firearms are the most lethal method of death in a suicide attempt. The Safer Homes Collaborative brings together individuals and organizations with a broad range of views on gun ownership who share a commitment to safety and preventing suicide. The group includes firearms retailers and instructors, injury prevention and mental health practitioners, public health researchers, and other committed volunteers. Kurt Dudenhoeffer, field coordinator of the Safer Homes Collaborative, will present a training session that will help gun owners prevent firearm-related injuries or death during a suicide crisis. He will explain the 11 Commandments of Gun Safety, all of which encourage putting time and distance between firearms and people in emotional crisis.
