DESCRIPTION:John Fennell has been a painter for 40 years and works out of 
 Orr Street Studios in Columbia. A graduate of Northern Illinois University
 , he attended the American Academy of Arts and later earned a master'
 s degree in painting and drawing from the University of Wisconsin - Milwau
 kee. He has studied with a number of well-known artists and exhibited thro
 ughout Missouri, nationally, and internationally. He is a Missouri School 
 of Journalism emeritus professor where he taught magazine writing, design,
  and publishing, About the exhibit, he says, "Light in all of its ma
 nifestations has been my primary interest in painting. To me, light is col
 or and the foundation of seeing...In landscapes we see the outside world i
 nterpreted through the mind of the artist; in abstractions, the inner, unk
 nown realms...What am I ultimately after? In a world where so much of our 
 lives are prescribed, I find these explorations reconnect me with the inne
 r spirit, the driving force of life."  An artist reception will be h
 eld on March 8 from 2-4 pm for John Fennell's works. Light refreshmen
 ts will be served.
