A Matter of Magic by Patricia E. Wrede, 448 pages, read by Tracy, on 06/16/2012

When you are a girl living in the streets of Victorian London it’s better to dress and act like a boy. Kim, the main character, got away with it for years before a Wizard discovered her secret. When she was paid to search Mairelon the Magicians wagon she is caught and discovers that he isn’t what he appears to be either. He offers her a chance to learn about magic and she helps him with her skills she learned living in the streets. This is a double book. The first introduces Kim and Mairelon and the second continues with her apprenticeship. When Mairelon takes her in and makes her his ward she isn’t sure she fits in with London’s society crowd.
