Dr. Rob Havers Comes To MRRL To Talk About Churchill
Submitted by admin on Fri, 08/10/2012 - 08:00
Join us on August 28th at 7pm to hear Dr. Rob Havers speak on one of the most important speeches of the 20th century - one that was delivered right up the road in Fulton by Winston Churchill! Following Havers’ presentation, there will be a round of Churchill Jeopardy.
In 1946, Churchill delivered his famous Iron Curtain speech at Westminster College. Many historians point to that speech as the unofficial start of the Cold War.
"From Stettin in the Baltic to Triesete in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent,” Churchill said to the crowd – which included President Harry S Truman – at Westminster College on March 5, 1946
Havers’ discussion will center on Churchill’s visit, why Fulton, and the National Churchill Museum.
“We’re very excited to have Dr. Havers speak at our library,” said Claudia Schoonover, assistant director of public services at Missouri River Regional Library. “We hope this will be the beginning of a long relationship with the National Churchill Museum which will benefit our patrons.”
