Artist's Statement:The work I have presented for this show is of two categories; work as "constructed painting" and as "constructed image." The first category is of specifically shaped panels, of which one panel gives shape to the image by presenting an edge or outline of a leg. The second panel hints at being a landscape viewed traditionally or downward, as looking to the ground. This group of work takes its name and direction from E. Manet's painting "Luncheon on the Grass."
The second category, the "Medici" series, presents the same section of a
leg, but in three traditional drawing directions: frontal, side and
three-quarters. References to 20th century art movements and/or artists
make up the background patterns or shapes. However, in this series, the
work is a "constructed image." Five paintings are in this series and each
work contains three panels. Each panel was painted in such a
compositional fashion as to stand alone, but with the inclusion of the
other two panels the work is larger in scope and stronger as an
image.
