Artist's Statement:
the colors chosen for such areas as shadows and reflective light. These
and other art elements together contribute toward the total artwork, which
reflects the illusion of reality but also reflects an aesthetically functional
work.
My subject matter reflects my personal values and interests. The beauty
of the rural countryside, its small towns and buildings, holds a great
deal of fascination for me.
Another of my favorite subjects is my children. My portraits depict them
growing from children into teenagers and beyond.
One factor that noticeably distinguishes my work from other artists is
that my primary tool for color application is the airbrush. Long regarded
primarily as a tool for the commercial artist the airbrush is becoming
accepted in the fine arts.
Application of color with an airbrush eliminates many traditional application
techniques. With an airbrush my major concerns involve the overlay of
color and the step-by-step color application employing the use of shields,
frisket masking and freehand application.
