Biography:Born in Kansas, Lainie has lived in Missouri most of her life, moving from Clinton, to Jefferson City, and then to Columbia and now back to Jefferson City. With an interest in drawing developed throughout childhood, she continued to pursue art enthusiastically supported by an artistic family. Her art became an important part of her life during high school; she graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Drawing in 1992. Four years of college studies enriched her with many opportunities to experiment with different media. She ultimately developed a great interest in the colored pencil medium. Her style, dubbed by many as somewhat “surrealistic,” includes predominantly landscapes, florals and gardens. She added watercolor pencil to the palette several years ago and incorporated watercolor into the mix in 2003. Lainie has been an active member of the Jefferson City Art Club since 1993. She served as President of the Art Club 2001-2003 during which the club celebrated its 100th anniversary. She has received awards 14 out of 15 years in the Jefferson City Adult Artist Exhibit, receiving a “Best of Show” in 1999. She participated in the 2001 Art Club Professional Show and the 2001-02 State Fair Art Exhibit and was the featured artist in the winter 2004 issue of Jefferson City Home magazine. By day, Lainie has worked as a Web Developer for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the past seven years.

Artist's Statement:To me, creating a piece of artwork requires passion, inspiration. I guess if you think about it, this is the basic philosophy for anything you pursue in life. Passion and inspiration can come from anywhere: a teacher’s guidance, a moving speech or presentation, or simply visiting an awe-inspiring place. This drives my enthusiasm behind what I create. Missouri landscapes are my main subjects with spring and fall being my favorite times of the year, full of rich color. Sunsets are also a favorite of mine, with my collection including a Fall Lake of the Ozarks sunset as well as a Waikiki Beach sunset I captured while vacationing there. I think as long as you keep searching for that inspiration, you will find it somewhere. My goal is to capture the subject in a way that creates a “window” of my own perspective. That’s what art is all about, creating your unique experience to share with the viewer. And last, but not least, experiment, play, don’t be afraid to combine media and techniques. Art has no boundaries. Anyone wishing pricing or other To contact Lainie about her work: |
