Myro's Dream - Paula Kientzel

Mother Rock

Biography:

A recent graduate of the Fine Arts Program at William Woods University, Paula Kientzel has balanced her studies and works while tending to her active family's needs at their home in Callaway County. Born and raised in St. Louis she initiated her formal studies at St. Louis Community College. The shift to a rural living over a decade ago exposed the artist to formations of rock and flora which immediately influenced her work. More recently hands on work with native plants has inspired forms, shapes, and textures relating to clay sculpture, paintings, and drawings.

Artist's Statement:

The imagery in my work is a direct result of my exposure to native geological formations and flora.

While in my natural surroundings I am always intrigued by the way in which a grouping of rocks or plants presents interesting relationships between one another.

My goal in this series has been to recreate the structural and social relationships I have discovered.
