National Poetry Month

Each year April is set aside as National Poetry Month; it is a time to celebrate poets and their craft. National Poetry Month was started in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. You can find out more about National Poetry Month and the Academy of American Poets at Poets.org.

In honor of National Poetry Month, the Children's Department at MRRL has created a poetry display with a selection of poetry titles. We also have a number of new poetry books on the "New Books" shelf for you to choose from. And there are numerous old favorites in the poetry section, otherwise known as the 800s.

Poetry can move you to laughter and to tears; it can make you think and it can make you feel; poetry can be easy to read or it can be hard, but it can also be a lot of fun. So pick up a book of poetry this month.
