Message From The Director
Welcome to Missouri River Regional Library. Please remember that MRRL is YOUR library, funded by your taxes, so be sure to discover all the exciting events and resources that MRRL offers to the residents of Cole and Osage Counties.
Currently, my main focus is collaborating with staff, patrons and the Board of Trustees to create a new strategic plan that will ensure the Library’s sustainability into the future and to continually provide excellent service to the library patrons in Cole and Osage County.
Please feel free to e-mail me your comments and suggestions on how to improve MRRL. firstname.lastname@example.org.
Helen Rigdon became Director of Missouri River Regional Library in January, 2011. She came to Jefferson City from the Kansas City, KS Public Library where she served as the Assistant Director. Previously, Helen served as the Coffeyville (KS) Public Library Director; Director of Libraries at Wichita (KS) Area Technical College; and Director of Library Services at Coffeyville (KS) Community College. She received her Master in Library Science from Emporia (KS) State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Friends University.
As the Director, Helen strives to serve the 90,000 residents in the two-county service area. The MRRL system has two facilities, the main library in Jefferson City and the Osage County Library in Linn. It also maintains a state-of-the-art bookmobile that serves the communities and schools in the outlying rural area. She works with the MRRL Board of Trustees to set policies and provisions for the future of the library district. Helen oversees all aspects of the library, including the $3 million annual budget, to ensure that quality service is consistently delivered to all library patrons. Helen also works with the MRRL Foundation and Friends of the Library to guide the two organizations efforts to raise additional funds necessary to support quality library services and events.
Committed to promoting the value of the library to the community, Helen is available to speak to businesses and community organizations in the area. She is a member of the Jefferson City Breakfast Rotary, Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Library Association, Public Library Association, and the American Library Association.
