We were awarded a grant from the Missouri State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services for new children's computers. We have two computers in the Children's Department, one in the PCC, and one at Linn.

Summer Reading Club is here. If you haven't picked up your log sheet, please stop by one of the circulation desks and get one soon. Summer Reading is for all ages: children, teen and adults! If you don't know what to read or need help finding something, the helpful MRRL staff will be glad to assist you. So Make a Splash, Catch a Wave or Water Your Mind this summer with our Summer Reading Clubs!

Our Summer Reading Club is just around the corner! No matter what age, the library has a club for you. All programs will run from June 1^st to August 13^th. Earn prizes while enjoying great reads! A special kickoff party will be held on Friday, June 4^th, from 10-11 a.m., and will feature live music and fun. Also, be among the first 350 people to join us at the downtown SUBWAY restaurant between 7:30 and 9:30 that same morning and enjoy a free “Reader’s Choice” breakfast sandwich. We hope to see you there!

This week is National Library Week. National Library Week is an annual celebration of the contributions of our nations libraries and librarians. We will be celebrating National Library Week here at MRRL and would like to invite you to join us.

Join us at the library for food and fun! Let us show our appreciation to you, our patrons, by giving you a free hot dog, chips and a soda. There will be fun and games, you can tour the bookmobile and keep an eye out for Dewey The Library Dog!

Each year April is set aside as National Poetry Month; it is a time to celebrate poets and their craft. National Poetry Month was started in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. You can find out more about National Poetry Month and the Academy of American Poets at Poets.org.

Spring has sprung and so has our Parent Teacher Collection. We have added a Language Arts Section (in the hanging blue-handled bags) to the room. You will now find 4 kits dealing with writing. One of the kits is from the Institute for Excellence in Writing and contains four DVDs, along with teacher notes and student handouts. The other 3 kits are called Writing Strands Levels 2, 3 and 4. These three books offer writing exercises, skill building and skill mastery. Keep an eye open for some of our new kits that will be coming out soon.
