Robots out of Cans! Volcano in a bottle! Invincible Straw!

These are just a few of the exciting things you can do this week in the Children's Department.

Join us Tuesday evening for Can-Do Robots at 6:30 p.m. in the Art Gallery. You can make your own robot.

Then on Saturday, come to the library at 11 a.m for Kitchen Science and do all kinds of wacky experiments from Invincible Straw to Lava Lamps to Raisin Races. This is a program you don't want to miss.

Mini golf at the Library

Do you like mini golf? Want to play mini golf at the library? Now is your chance. Saturday, February 25 we have Mini Golf Night @ the Library. It is $5 per person, $15 per family (admits up to 2 adults and 4 children).

Join us for a night of family fun! We will have an 18-hole mini golf course set up throughout the main and second floor of the library. All procceds will go toward digitizing the library.

The fun starts at 5 p.m. Don't miss it.

2012 Building Block Award Nominees Announced

The 2012 Missouri Building Block Award Nominees were announced this month. The Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award, administered by the Youth Services Community of Interest of MLA, is presented annually to the author and illustrator of the picture book voted most popular by preschool children in Missouri's public libraries. Designed to encourage reading aloud to children from birth through kindergarten age, the award was first given in 1996.

Mark Twain and Show Me Award nominees announced

The 2012-2013 Mark Twain and Show Me Award nominees have been announced. The Missouri Association of School Librarians announcesthe nominees each December with the winners for the previous year announced each spring. Students throughout Missouri vote during the year to select the winners of these awards.

Twelve books are nominated each year for the Mark Twain Award for readers in grades four through six. The list of nominees can be found on our Mark Twain Award page.

Pictures with Santa

Santa is going to be at the library on Thursday and Friday and wants to have his picture taken with you! So come see Santa at the library.

Thursday, December 8: 6-8:30 p.m.

Friday, December 9: 9-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m.

Cost for 4x6 pictures: One picture, $3, Two pictures, $5; Four pictures, $10; with your picture order you can have the digital image e-mailed to you for an additional $5. Pictures will be available shortly after the photo is taken.

Homework Helpers

Do you need help with your homework? Do you have to write a paper and need sources? The library can help you.

Come to the Homework Helpers database class on Monday, November 14th at 6:30 p.m. and see what databases the library has to help you with your homework. We will explore World Book Online, our new EBSCOHost databases, Mango Language Learning and more.

Halloween Activities!

It's Halloween in the Children's Department and we want you to come celebrate with us!

Come to our Howlin' Halloween Costume Party on Wednesday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m. We are going to have fun and games. Come in costume and enjoy the party!

We are also going to have a Costume Day Storytime on Wednesday the 26th at 10:30 a.m. We will have stories, music and more during this storytime.

So come join us on Wednesday for our Halloween celebrations. We will be having a spooky good time!
